What is Specialty Grade Coffee?
What is Specialty Grade Coffee?
Not all coffee is created equal. Specialty grade coffee represents the top tier of the coffee world — beans that score 80 or above on the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) 100-point scale, with fewer defects and more distinct, complex flavor characteristics than commodity coffee.
80+ SCA Score
Specialty coffee beans are rigorously evaluated and scored by certified Q Graders. An 80+ score means the coffee exhibits exceptional flavor, aroma, acidity, body, and aftertaste — qualities you simply won't find in mass-produced coffee.
Full Traceability
With specialty coffee, you know exactly where your cup comes from — the farm, the region, the processing method, the plant variety, the terrain, and the altitude. Every one of these factors shapes the flavor in your cup.
Controlled from Plant to Cup
Every step of the process is intentional — from harvest and processing to washing and storage. Nothing is left to chance. The goal is to preserve and highlight the bean's natural flavor potential at every stage.
Small-Batch Roasted
Specialty coffee is roasted in small batches, dialed in specifically to each bean's unique characteristics. This allows the roaster to fully develop the flavor profile without masking it behind a dark, generic roast.
Peak Freshness
Specialty coffee is roasted close to when it reaches you — not sitting in a warehouse for months. Freshness isn't a bonus, it's a requirement. Stale coffee loses its complexity fast.
Brewing is the Final Touch
The journey doesn't end at the roast. Your brewing technique — grind size, water temperature, brew ratio, and method — is the final step that either unlocks or undermines everything that came before it. Brew with intention.
